Cal State LA Athletics

2024: Competed in the fall for Cal State LA’s cross country team and was one of the team’s most consistent performers once again in his second year with the program. Earned the California Collegiate Athletic Association Elite 13 Award for top academic achievement among conference championship competitors. Competed in five of the six meets for the Golden Eagles. Had a best 8,000-meter time of 29:33.0 at the Highlander Invitational. Placed 74^th at the CCAA Championships with a time of 30:28.3 over 8,000 meters. Also competed for Cal State LA’s track and field team in the spring (2025) for a third season. Had best times of 2:10.82 in the 800 meters and 4:32.71 in the 1,500. Finished 22^nd in the 800 in the CCAA Championships. Earned a 2024-25 D2 Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award, 2024-25 CCAA All-Academic honors, 2024 CCAA Fall Academic Honor Roll recognition and 2025 CCAA Spring Academic Honor Roll recognition. Earned the department’s Male Academic Achievement Award for 2024-25.

2023: Competed in the fall for Cal State LA’s cross country team. Was one of only three runners to compete in all six of the team’s competitions. Had a best 8,000-meter time of 30:32.2 at the Cougar Challenge at Cal State San Marcos on Sept. 23. Placed 81^st in the CCAA Championships with a time of 32:07.9 over 8,000 meters on Oct. 21 and had a 10,000-meter time of 40:12.9 while finishing 156^th in the NCAA West Regionals on Nov. 4. Also competed for a second season for Cal State LA’s track and field team in the spring (2024). Had best times of 24.59 in the 200 meters, 55.58 in the 400, 2:16.30 in the 800 and 19:45.85 in the 5,000. Finished 20^th in the 400 at the CCAA Championships. An outstanding student, earned 2023-24 D2 Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award. Also earned 2023-24 CCAA All-Academic Team honors, 2023 CCAA Fall Academic Honor Roll recognition and 2024 CCAA Spring Academic Honor Roll recognition.

2022: Competed for Cal State LA’s track and field team in the spring (2023) and ran in six meets. Had best times of 2:13.88 in the 800 meters, 4:49.06 in the 1,500 and 18:38.90 in the 5,000. Was on the Dean’s List.

At Cal State San Marcos: Was on the Dean’s List in 2022. Also attended Mira Costa College and Palomar College. Was a Hispanic Scholarship Fund Scholar and earned a California Teachers Association Scholarship.

At Escondido High School: Earned MVP honors for both the cross country and track and field teams. Received the Bob and Marion Wilson Scholar-Athlete Award and was the school’s Male Athlete of the Year. Earned the Cougar Athletic Club Award in 2021-22. Earned the Jack Thoreson Memorial Athletic Scholarship. Was named the San Diego High School Sports Association Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2021-22. Competed in cross country, soccer and track and field.

Personal: Son of David and Laura Bonds. Majoring in computer science. Enjoys playing the piano, trumpet, and singing. During the off-season, also enjoys playing pickup basketball and soccer. Lists representing his high school as the cross country Valley League champion as his most exciting experience in sports. Notes he was on the Dean’s List in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
