Los Angeles — Cal State LA Athletics has added Hung P. Tsai, former CCAA Director of Championships, to its administrative staff, the University announced on Thursday.

Dr. Daryl Gross named Tsai the Associate Athletics Director for Communications and Game Operations, bringing the experienced Intercollegiate athletics leader back to a CSU campus.
"Hung's extensive experience, sound judgment and wisdom gained through nearly three decades in athletic communications and administration will be invaluable to Cal State LA," Gross said. "His leadership will position our communications operations among the elite, and he will be an integral part of our department's decision-making as we continue advancing our vision to develop leaders through championship play and rigorous academics. We are thrilled to welcome Hung and his family to the Golden Eagle community."
Tsai will provide strategic leadership and decision-making for the communications, media relations, digital content, broadcast, statistical reporting, and game-administration activities of the Golden Eagles. He will serve as an administrator for home-contest and championship operations, including game-management planning, competition protocols, staffing, and communications with participating teams and officials.

Tsai brings nearly 30 years of NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics experience to Cal State LA. He spent most of his career as the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications and Marketing at Stanislaus State from 2007 to 2021, after serving as the Warriors' sports information director from 2001 to 2004. Since 2021, Tsai has served as the Director of Championships for the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), of which Cal State LA is a member institution. His previous experience also includes stints with Humboldt State, San Jose State, the LA Galaxy and ESPN.
During his 17-year tenure at Stanislaus State, Tsai expanded its sports information, media services and marketing programs while playing an instrumental role in creating departmental operating procedures and protocols. He also mentored numerous young professionals and helped them launch careers in sports and entertainment.
As the CCAA Director of Championships, Tsai elevated the student-athlete experience while coordinating, organizing and directing the operations of every conference championship tournament.

A career-long member of College Sports Communicators, formerly CoSIDA, Tsai was honored by the organization with its 25-year service award in June 2024. Tsai has a Master of Arts degree in Sport Management from Long Beach State in 2007. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from Cal Poly Humboldt in 1997.
