ARCATA, Calif. — Cal State LA generated six shots on goal and held a commanding advantage in corner kicks, but the Golden Eagles settled for a 0-0 draw against Cal Poly Humboldt Thursday at College Creek Field.
Cal State LA moved to 4-2-4 overall and 1-2-2 in conference play. The Lumberjacks, the defending CCAA tournament champions, are now 5-3-3 overall and 3-1-1 in conference action.
The Golden Eagles finished with advantages of 11-10 in shots, 6-3 in shots on goal and 8-1 in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Kendyl Sumlin made three saves to record the shutout.
Cal Poly Humboldt produced the first dangerous opportunities of the match, but Sumlin stopped shots from Hayden Anderson and Heidie Munoz in the 21st and 23rd minutes.
Cal State LA created four first-half corner kicks and nearly broke through shortly before halftime. Kristin Mijares placed a shot on target in the 43rd minute, but Humboldt goalkeeper Ariana Beddoes made the save to keep the match scoreless.
The Golden Eagles increased the pressure after halftime, taking eight shots and putting five on goal. Analise Quintero forced a save in the 47th minute before Alina Valdez tested Beddoes in the 55th.
Jasmin De La Torre, Briana Chagolla and Carisia Raygoza also put second-half attempts on target, but Beddoes turned away all three to preserve the draw.
Chagolla led Cal State LA with three shots. Mijares, Valdez, De La Torre, Raygoza and Quintero each recorded a shot on goal.
Beddoes finished with six saves for Cal Poly Humboldt. Sumlin made her final stop against Munoz in the 60th minute, and the Golden Eagle defense did not allow another shot on goal over the final 30 minutes.
