LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's soccer team delivered another strong defensive showing on Thursday night, but the Golden Eagles continued to search for offense in University Stadium.
The Golden Eagles posted their second shutout in three home games with a 0-0 draw against visiting Biola. It was also their second 0-0 draw after opening the season with a scoreless match against Western Oregon. Cal State LA (2-1-2) has scored five goals in two road wins, but is still looking for its first goal at home.
Biola (2-1-2) stretched its unbeaten streak to four games with the draw.
The game was a defensive masterpiece for both sides and neither goalkeeper had to make any big saves for the shutout. Autum Monty made two saves for the Eagles, while Cal State LA's
Kendyl Sumlin didn't have a save, but was in prime position to thwart potential threats in the box.
Camila Juarez was particularly active on the back line for the Golden Eagles on Thursday, while
Jacqueline Marin had a pair of shots, including a late bid off a corner kick.
Peyton Nelson had three shots and Mallory Palm had a pair of shots for Biola.
Biola had a 9-7 advantage in shots thanks to a 4-2 edge in the first half. Cal State LA, after a slow start, was energized in the second period when both teams had five shots. The Golden Eagles had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks, including a 3-1 edge in the second half.
Cal State LA had a last-chance bid in the final minute, but Marin's attempt was saved by Monty.
Cal State LA will return to action on Saturday with a home game against Azusa Pacific at 7 p.m.
