COLUMBUS, OHIO -- Cal State LA's
Andrew Portis has earned first-team All-America honors for a second straight season, only this time it's from a second organization.
Portis was part of the 2024 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-America Team announced on Tuesday. Portis, who was a third-team selection from the D2CCA in 2023, was one of four defenders selected to the first team this year after a sensational season for the Golden Eagles.
Last year, Portis earned first-team honors from the United Soccer Coaches and third-team honors from the D2CCA.
He becomes the third player in program history to earn multiple All-America honors from the D2CCA and the first since Morten Bjoershol earned first-team honors in 2019 and 2021.
He led the Golden Eagles in minutes played with 1,857 and was the only player to start all 21 games. He was also second on the team in scoring with four goals and three assists for 11 points and all four of his goals were game-winners, which led the team.
Portis, the California Collegiate Athletic Association Defender of the Year, was the lone first-team selection from the CCAA. Michael McKibbin of Cal State Dominguez Hills earned second-team honors, while Cal State San Bernardino's Brian Castillo earned third-team honors.
Sports information directors from the NCAA Division II schools and conferences selected three All-America teams and a total of 39 players. A total of 32 institutions were represented. This is the 18th year that the teams have been selected since the program began in 2006.
The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
The United Soccer Coaches also have All-Region and All-America teams that have yet to be announced.
