Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 2 Golden Eagles Settle For Second Straight Tie

SAN BERNARDINO -- Cal State LA's men's soccer team found itself engaged in another titanic California Collegiate Athletic Association contest on Sunday and the Golden Eagles battled to their second consecutive draw.

After taking a first-half lead on a goal by Oscar Warne, the Golden Eagles surrendered a second-half penalty kick goal and settled for a 1-1 tie with Cal State San Bernardino at Premier Field. No. 2 Cal State LA (8-0-4, 3-0-3 CCAA) stretched its unbeaten streak to 26 games dating back to last season with its second tie this week and third in six conference games. Cal State San Bernardino (4-2-6, 2-1-3 CCAA) also had its second tie of the week and third of the conference schedule.

After Sunday's results, Cal State LA remains in a first-place tie with Cal Poly Pomona with 12 points, one ahead of third-place Chico State and two points ahead of third-place Cal State East Bay and Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Cal State LA was getting outshot for a lot of the game, but the Golden Eagles were flying at the end as they searched for a game-winner. The Golden Eagles had the final eight shots of the match to finish tied in that category, 16-16. Cal State San Bernardino had a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.

Diego Bravo had a strong game in goal for the Golden Eagles and recorded five saves.

Both goals Cal State LA allowed this week in 1-1 ties against Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino came via penalty kicks.

Warne gave the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute when he scored his third goal of the season and sixth of his Cal State LA career. The assist came from Ignacio Moreno, who picked up the first assist of his career in his sixth game with the Golden Eagles.

The Coyotes got the equalizer in the 58th minute courtesy of a penalty-kick goal from Brian Castillo, his ninth goal of the season.

The Golden Eagles picked up the pressure down the stretch and had all eight shots taken in the final 11 minutes of the game.

Tommaso Belli started the rush with a shot that was saved in the 79th minute. That was followed by an attempt off a corner kick by Hunter Devlin that was blocked.

Geovanni Antuna fired a shot high in the 84th minute and Carson Nguyen had an attempt go high one minute later.
Braeden Pryor had a shot saved in the 86th minute.

Emil Kischka had a shot blocked in the 87th minute and Ryan Candelario's rebound attempt went high.

Kischka had the final attempt of the game when his bid went high with a little more than one minute left.

Cal State LA will return to action on Friday with a home game against Cal State East Bay.
