LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's
Daniela Andrade has been named CCAA Women's Golfer of the Week after her dazzling collegiate debut, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Andrade, a freshman from San Jose, took home individual medalist honors at the RJGA Shootout at Estrella at Goodyear, Ariz. on Tuesday. She tied a Golden Eagles program record with a final round 69 to win the two-day, 36-hole event in her collegiate debut. She shot a 71 on Monday and finished with 10 birdies and 22 pars during the two rounds of championship golf.
Andrade's 36-hole total of 140 is also a new program record and her 69 equals the 18-hole record set by
Morgan Sjoerdsma in 2021. She became just the second Cal State LA golfer to win a tournament, joining Sjoerdsma, a two-time tournament winner.
Cal State LA finished third for third in the team standings at +14, six strokes behind winner Cal State East Bay and two back of Texas A&M International.
Andrade becomes the second player in program history to earn CCAA Golfer of the Week honors and the first since Sjoerdsma won the award for the week of Sept. 28-Oct. 4 after winning the Sonoma State Fall Invitational.
Cal State LA will return to action in October with a pair of tournaments in Waikoloa, Hawaii, Oct. 23-28.
