LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's Jaden Lazo has been named to the 2022-23 CSC Academic All-District Men's Basketball Team, selected by the district's College Sports Communicators, the organization announced on Tuesday.

Lazo earns the award for the first time and becomes the first Cal State LA men's basketball player to make an academic all-district team.

The awards honor student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program (formerly known as the CoSIDA Academic All-America program) recognizes men's basketball honorees in four divisions - NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

To be considered for the honor, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50% of the team's games at their position. No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and is at least a sophomore academically and athletically. 

Lazo has been a major contributor this season for the Golden Eagles in his second season on the court for the program. He is seventh on the team in scoring with 6.4 points per game and he is third on the team with 22 steals. Lazo has appeared in 19 games with 12 starts and poured in a career-high 19 points in a win over Cal State Dominguez Hills in January. He is a computer science major with a 3.53 grade point average. Lazo earned CCAA All-Academic honors in 2020-21 and 2021-22. 

The Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in mid-March.
