Morgan Sjoerdsma Earns WGCA All-America Honors

CORAL SPRINGS, FLA. -- Cal State LA's Morgan Sjoerdsma made history once again on Thursday when she became the first women's golfer at Cal State LA to earn All-America honors.

Sjoerdsma, the California Collegiate Athletic Association champion, earned All-America honorable mention from the Women's Golf Coaches Association. After naming 16 golfers to its first team last week during the NCAA Division II Championships, the organization announced its second team and honorable mention awardees on Thursday. A total of 10 players earned second-team honors and 11 earned honorable mention.

Sjoerdsma, who was ranked No. 25 in the nation in the latest rankings by golfstat, completed a remarkable 2021-22 season with an incredible final month that included a conference championship, a conference Elite 13 Award for academic achievement, a first-ever NCAA appearance and an impressive performance at regionals with a 12th-place finish out of a 66-player field that saw her only two shots away from qualifying for nationals.

She and Karla Santos of volleyball shared Cal State LA's Billie Jean King Award as the athletic department's Female Athlete of the Year.

Sjoerdsma was one of three CCAA women's golfers to earn All-America honors. Breann Horn of Cal State San Marcos earned first-team honors, while Sjoerdsma and Drishti Karumbaya of Cal State East Bay earned honorable mention.
