MANHATTAN BEACH -- Cal State LA's beach volleyball team got its 2022 season off to a great start with a pair of wins Friday in Manhattan Beach.

The Golden Eagles beat host Marymount University to begin the day, 5-0, and then edged Hope International, 3-2, in their second match. Cal State LA is off to its first 2-0 start.

The Golden Eagles got things started with a 5-0 win over Marymount. Iane Henke and Ashley Dittmann won at No. 1 pairs, 21-8, 21-7, Emily Elliott and Eliza Cannon won at No. 2 pairs, 21-6, 21-11, Shelby Grubbs and Allison Linder won at No. 3 pairs, 21-9, 21-5, Jaden Grova and Haley Roundtree won at No. 4 pairs, 21-15, 21-16 and Malia Apodaca and Beatriz Jimenez won at No. 5 pairs, 21-5, 21-8. Talia Niu and Kaili Vandenberg won an exhibition match, 12-21, 21-15, 15-9.

Against Hope International, Henke and Dittmann rallied to post a 19-21, 21-16, 15-4 win at No. 1 pairs for the deciding point after splits in the first four matches. Elliott and Cannon won at No. 2 pairs, 21-7, 21-5 and Grova and Roundtree won at No. 4 pairs, 24-22, 21-18. Niu and Vandenberg won again in an exhibition match, 21-11, 21-19.

Cal State LA will return to action next Friday, March 4, at Golden West College.
