BERKELEY -- Cal State LA's women's basketball team stepped up at the last minute - almost literally - to compete at the University of California on Wednesday afternoon.
After Cal's original game against Arizona State was canceled, the Golden Eagles filled in and competed admirably in a 95-53 loss at Haas Pavilion. The game will count on each team's season totals and was not an exhibition contest.
Anai Washington had 15 points for the Golden Eagles (10-11), while
Nicole Flennaugh had 11 points.
Jazlen Green had 20 points to lead five players in double figures for Cal (11-8).
Yesenia Smith had eight points for the Golden Eagles, while
Iyanna Lamb had seven points and three assists and
Lily Buggs had six points and eight rebounds.Â
Cal State LA will now turn its attention to its quest for a spot in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament. The Golden Eagles are currently fourth, one-half game behind third-place Chico State with four games remaining. The top six teams will qualify for the CCAA Tournament.
Cal State LA will play its final home games this week, beginning with a showdown against Chico State on Thursday and concluding with a Senior Day contest against Stanislaus State on Saturday afternoon.
