LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's volleyball team had an impressive response to its first loss of the season.
The Golden Eagles, one night after falling in straight sets to No. 2 Cal State San Bernardino, were firing on all cylinders in an impressive 25-16, 25-18, 25-16 California Collegiate Athletic Association win over No. 25 Cal Poly Pomona. Cal State LA (14-1, 6-1 CCAA) is ranked 16th in the nation.
The Golden Eagles set the tone for the evening with an explosive first set included five service aces, including three in a row from
Kelsey Molnar. Cal State LA hit at a sizzling .330 percentage in one of its best performances of the season. Cal Poly Pomona (14-3, 7-2 CCAA) hit just .122 for the match.
Cal State LA had a 42-30 advantage in kills and a big 11-4 advantage in blocks. The Golden Eagles were also effective at the service line with eight aces and six errors, while the Broncos had only one ace and four errors.
Karla Santos led the Golden Eagles with 14 kills and a pair of blocks. She hit at a .400 percentage.
Daisy Crenshaw was on fire, pounding down nine kills in just 13 swings for a .692 percentage and also contributing six blocks.
Alejandra Negron also had a great match with nine kills, nine digs, four blocks and one service ace.
Kristen Hamlin led the Broncos with nine kills and three blocks.
Kelsey Molnar had 35 set assists, four aces, three blocks and two kills in an outstanding match, while
Jeshmarie Suarez had a match-high 13 digs.
Molnar helped the Golden Eagles take early control of the opening set when she followed up a kill by Santos with three straight service aces to open up a 13-8 advantage. The lead grew to 20-12 and Cal State LA eventually closed out the set with a kill by Crenshaw and a block by Negron and Crenshaw.

Riley Morland gave the Golden Eagles a 12-8 lead in the second set and, one again, the Golden Eagles steadily increased their advantage. A block by Molnar and
Daisia LaBrie gave the Golden Eagles a 20-15 lead and Cal State LA got four of its last five points in the set on kills by Santos.
Cal State LA jumped out to an early 10-4 lead in the third set after kills by Santos and LaBrie and never gave the Broncos an opportunity to get back into the match. An ace by Negron opened up a 19-12 lead and kills by Molnar and Santos gave the Golden Eagles a 21-13 lead. Kills by Santos and Negron and a block by Santos and Crenshaw got the Golden Eagles to match point and a kill by Crenshaw closed out the contest.
Cal State LA will return to action on Tuesday with a match at Cal State San Marcos.Â
