Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Golden Eagles Fall On Late Goal To Seawolves

ARCATA -- Cal State LA's men's soccer team wound up on the wrong side of another tough result Friday in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.

The Golden Eagles battled Sonoma State on Friday at Humboldt State's College Creek Field before a goal in the 76th minute gave the Seawolves a 2-1 victory. It was the second tough one-goal loss in the past three games for Cal State LA (10-3-2, 4-3-2 CCAA). The game was played at Humboldt State due to the recent fires and air quality concerns in the Sonoma area.

It was an evenly-contested game on Friday and Cal State LA, which is ranked sixth in the first NCAA West Region poll, had a 14-13 advantage in shots. Sonoma State (6-6-2, 3-4-1 CCAA) had a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.

Cal State LA goalkeeper Steven Barrera made three saves for the Golden Eagles, while Mitch North made eight saves for the Seawolves.

The Seawolves struck first in the 16th minute when TJ Perez scored the first of his two goals on the day. Sebastian Santos got the assist.

David Elizaga tied the game for the Golden Eagles in the 39th minute when he drilled in a free kick for his second goal of the season.

Perez, though, got the game-winner for the Seawolves in the 76th minute when he was able to knock in a rebound with a one-time shot.

The Golden Eagles had a pair of opportunities down the stretch, but Zamora had a shot saved in the 81st minute and Morten Bjoershol had an attempt saved in the final seconds of the contest.

Elizaga and Robin Lindahl had three shots each for the Golden Eagles, while Zamora had two shots.

Cal State LA will return to action on Sunday with a match at Humboldt State at 3:30 p.m.
