LONG BEACH -- With an eye toward its season opener on Sunday, Cal State LA's men's basketball team wrapped up its exhibition schedule at Long Beach State Friday night.

The Golden Eagles stayed within striking distance at halftime, but was outscored 44-21 in the second half and fell to the 49ers, 95-59, in the Pyramid. It was the regular-season opener for Long Beach State, which is picked to win the Big West Conference.

Cal State LA will begin its regular season at home on Sunday at 4 p.m. against Cal Lutheran.

Daylin Billingsley had 10 points and eight rebounds to lead the Golden Eagles, while Miles Ford had 10 points and four rebounds.

Evan Payne led four Long Beach State players in double figures with 15 points. Justin Bibbins and Temidayo Yussuf had 12 points each, while Gabe Levin had 11 points and five rebounds.

Grant Arthur and DeSean Scott had seven points each for Cal State LA.

Cal State LA shot 31.1 percent from the floor (19-of-61) and made just 7-of-27 from 3-point range (25.9 percent). Long Beach State shot 48 percent (36-of-75) and made 6-of-20 from 3-point range. Cal State LA was 14-of-18 from the free-throw line, while Long Beach State was 17-of-24.

Cal State LA trailed by just two points, 9-7, but Long Beach State went on a 10-1 run to take a 19-8 lead midway through the first half.
