Golden Eagles Settle For 1-1 Tie At CS Monterey Bay

SEASIDE -- Cal State L.A.'s women's soccer team had a strong performance on the road end in a 1-1 with Cal State Monterey Bay Sunday at the Otter Sports Complex.

The Golden Eagles surrendered a first-half goal, but began to control play in the second half and got the equalizer from Andrea Lammers in the 77th minute that sent the game into overtime. Cal State L.A. (2-3-1, 0-3-1 CCAA) had some quality looks in the two overtime periods, but was forced to settle for the tie.

After being held scoreless into the latter stages of the match, Lammers got the Golden Eagles on the board with her second goal of the season. She received a pass from Amalia Arvidsson in the box and drilled a shot into the upper corner of the net.

Abigail Perry made her first start in goal for the Golden Eagles and made five saves, including a couple of stops in the 86th minute that kept the game tied.

Cal State Monterey Bay got on the board in the 13th minute on a goal by Jami Murray. The assist was credited to Shoshana Wangerin.

The Golden Eagles played on even terms for the remainder of the first half and then began to assert themselves in the second half when they needed a goal to equalize. After Lammers' goal, the Golden Eagles had a good chance in the 85th minute by Arvidsson that was saved by Cal State Monterey Bay goalkeeper Lily Garcia.

Cal State L.A. had a 3-1 edge in shots in the second overtime period and had chances by Shea Richards and Heather Williams go just wide and a shot by Arvidsson saved by Garcia.

Cal State L.A. will return to action with a home game against Chico State on Friday at 7 p.m.
