Golden Eagles' Game-Winner Comes Just In Time

Box Score ARCATA -- Cal State L.A.'s women's soccer team waited until the last minute - literally - before securing a much-needed California Collegiate Athletic Association road victory.

The Golden Eagles got a goal from Amalia Arvidsson with just 55 seconds left in regulation and beat Humboldt State, 1-0, Sunday at College Creek Field. Cal State L.A. (5-4-1, 3-4-1 CCAA) completed a successful weekend with victories over No. 15 Sonoma State and Humboldt State.

Cal State L.A. has now won three of its last four games and climbed back into the CCAA South Division race.

The Golden Eagles had an 18-4 advantage in shots, including an 11-3 edge in the first half, but nothing to show for it until Arvidsson's late goal. Cal State L.A. had the game's only four corner kicks, two in each half.

The game-winning play started with Stephanie Lopez getting the ball to Janelle Hanna. The senior defender then sent in a cross that Arvidsson headed into the goal for the game's only score.

The goal was Arvidsson's team-leading seventh of the season.

Heather Williams, who had two assists to spark the Golden Eagles' win over Sonoma State on Friday, and had another outstanding effort on Sunday and led all players with four shots, including three on goal. Arvidsson and Megan Ollar had three shots each.

Yi Du made one save for the shutout, her second of the season and the team's fourth.

Kelly Lukas had eight saves for Humboldt State (3-5-2, 1-5-2 CCAA).

The Golden Eagles had several good scoring chances in the opening half, most notably a shot by Adriana Valdez that hit the crossbar in the 38th minute.

The game then appeared headed into an overtime period before Cal State L.A.'s clutch goal in the final minute.

Cal State L.A. will return to action next Friday with a home game against Cal State East Bay at 7 p.m.
