Box Score

ROHNERT PARK – Cal State L.A.'s men's soccer team turned in another dominating defensive performance, but that only earned the Golden Eagles a draw Friday in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.

The Golden Eagles limited Sonoma State to just one shot on goal, but both sides had trouble generating any offense in a hard-fought 0-0 tie Friday at Seawolf Soccer Field. Cal State L.A. (6-1-2, 4-1-2 CCAA) earned one point in the conference standings with the tie, but slipped two points behind first-place UC San Diego in the CCAA South Division.

The Tritons were 2-0 winners at Cal State Stanislaus on Friday.

Cal State L.A. ended up with a slim 13-12 advantage in shots, but the Golden Eagles did not have an attempt after the 75th minute. The Golden Eagles had a 6-1 edge in shots on goal and a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Cal State L.A. goalkeeper Mike Beigarten made one save for his fourth shutout of the season and the team's fifth.

Sonoma State goalkeeper Beau Diaz made six saves for the Seawolves, who remain in a tie for the CCAA North Division lead.

Cal State L.A. generated its best chances early in the second half. Joshua Cortez had a shot in the 48th minute saved by Diaz and Sigifredo Torres had a pair of shots go wide in the 51st and 53rd minutes.

The Golden Eagles then got a corner kick from Halil Tozar in the 57th minute and a shot by Troy Dumlao that was saved in the 60th minute.

Beigarten made his only save of the game in the 68th minute when he stopped a bid by Sonoma State's Aaron Glover.

Neither team generated much offense in the two 10-minute overtime periods. The Seawolves got a shot that sailed wide in the first overtime and the Golden Eagles got a corner kick in the second overtime that didn't produce a goal. There was only one shot in the two overtime periods.

Cal State L.A. will return to action on Sunday with a road game at Humboldt State at 2 p.m.
