LOS ANGELES – Rosalyn Omoruyi led the Golden Eagles with 14 points as Cal State L.A. fell to Cal State San Bernardino in Coussoulis Arena on the CSUSB campus on Friday night. Following their 49-63 loss, Cal State L.A. stands at 3-12 overall, 1-9 in the CCAA Conference.
The Golden Eagles kept the score close after falling behind early on. After being down by eight points,
Fatimah Stokley brought the Golden Eagles to within one point of the Coyotes with 8:50 left in the half. Almost four minutes later,
Regina Baucum hit a jumper to tie the game at 22 apiece. Over the final four minutes of the half, the Coyotes would go on a seven-point run, leaving the Golden Eagles on the wrong side of a 29-22 halftime score.
Jaquaya Chatman started the seconded half off by hitting a three-pointer, cutting the Coyotes' lead to four. However, several turnovers and missed shots later, the Golden Eagles found themselves down by 26 with just 4:34 left to play. Cal State L.A. was able to hack away at the Coyotes' lead, nearly cutting the deficit in half. It would be too late to mount a comeback howevr, as
Amber Whittington score the final points of the game as the Golden Eagles walked off the court on the losing end of the 63-49 contest.
The Golden Eagles are back in action tomorrow night against cross-town rival Cal Poly Pomona as they pay the Broncos a visit for a 5:30 p.m. game. Cal State L.A. returns home on February 2, for a two game homestand against San Francisco State on Friday and CSU Monterey Bay on Saturday. Both games will start at 5:30 p.m. and CSULA students, faculty and staff, and Alumni Association members are admitted free with their valid ID.
