LOS ANGELES – Tanya White led all players with 16 kills, but the Golden Eagles fell to #6 Cal State San Bernardino on Wednesday night in the Eagles Nest, 3-1. With the loss, Cal State L.A. drops to 16-8 overall, 12-7 in the CCAA.
Despite pulling ahead to a 12-9 lead at one point of the first game, the Golden Eagles fell behind for good at the 17-18 mark. The Coyotes took advantage of a six-point run to take the 23-17 lead. The Golden Eagles were able to come within five points of the lead, but that was as close as they would get before the Coyotes went on to win six of the last seven points to take game one, 30-22.
Game two was dominated by the nation's sixth-ranked team, as the Coyotes took the first two points and didn't look back. For the Golden Eagles, Luana Cavalcanti recorded four kills, as Cal State L.A. took the loss, 30-21.
One loss away from losing the match, the Golden Eagles took an early 3-0 lead in game three. Cal State L.A. would hold the lead until the Coyotes tied the game at 17-17. The game would go on to be tied four more times before Nancy Laguna's service ace put the Golden Eagles up 26-25. Cal State L.A. went on to win the next four points to take the game, 30-25.
Looking to force a deciding game five, the Golden Eagles battled through game four. With Cal State L.A. up 29-27, the Coyotes went on to take four consecutive points and the match with a 31-29 win in the fourth game.
The Golden Eagles return home for their final regular season match of 2006 on Friday, November 3, as Cal Poly Pomona challenges Cal State L.A. The match is set to start at 7 p.m. in the Eagles Nest and will mark the final home match for eight Golden Eagle seniors.
