Cal State L.A. Volleyball Sweeps No. 15 Chico State on Road

LOS ANGELES – Tanya White and Kha Tara Steen each recorded 11 kills as the #23 Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles volleyball team swept #15 Chico State on the road on Friday night; 30-27, 30-26, 30-23. With that, the Golden Eagles improve to 16-6 overall, and 12-5 in the CCAA.

Cal State L.A. started things off by taking the first lead of the night and never looking back. Despite recording six fewer kills than their opponents in the first game, the Golden Eagles took advantage an attack percentage of .382 and seven Wildcat errors to take the first game of the match, 30-27. For the game, Cal State L.A. committed just two errors of their own.

After struggling statistically in the second game, committing nine errors, and posting an attack percentage of only .128, the Golden Eagles went on to win what was a close game. The score would be tied 18 times, with seven lead changes, before Cal State L.A. earned themselves the 30-26 win.

The Golden Eagles completed the three game-sweep over their rivals, taking what was a close third game, 30-23. With the win, Cal State L.A. gets back on the winning track and earns them their twelfth CCAA win of the season, tying them for third place with the defeated Wildcats.

Statistical leaders for the Golden Eagles include:White and Steen recording 11 kills each, Steen's attack percentage of .625, Keslie Brown recorded 34 assists, Luana Cavalcanti led the defense with 16 digs.

Up next for the Golden Eagles is a match against Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday night. The Golden Eagles return home to wrap up the regular season with a Wednesday, November 1, match against #7 Cal State San Bernardino before concluding regular season play against Cal Poly Pomona on Friday, November 3.
