LOS ANGELES – Kha Tara Steen recorded 17 kills and an attack percentage of .682 as the Golden Eagles swept Sonoma State on Saturday in the Eagles Nest, 3-0. With that win, Cal State L.A. finished the weekend going 2-0 with victories over Humboldt State and Sonoma State. Cal State L.A. improves to 14-5 overall, and 10-4 in the CCAA. Sonoma State falls to 8-10, 5-9.
In the opening game, the Golden Eagles took advantage of nine Sonoma State errors, and recorded16 kills and a .333 attack percentage as a team to defeat the Seawolves, 30-16.
Cal State L.A. continued their dominance over Sonoma State in game two, outhitting the Seawolves, .279 to .083. With the Golden Eagles leading 29-17, Steen recorded her 12th kill of the match to end the game, 30-17.
Game three went back and forth for the first few points, but it soon became apparent that the Golden Eagles were looking to sweep as they pulled out to an 11-3 lead, winning nine consecutive points. As a team, Cal State L.A. tallied 16 kills in the game and took advantage of seven Sonoma State errors, including the final three points of the game. Cal State L.A. went on to sweep the match, winning game three, 30-22.
In addition to Steen's performance, other Golden Eagle individual highlights form the match include 36 assists by Keslie Brown, 8 kills and a .348 attack percentage by Tanya White, 16 digs by Luana Cavalcanti, and 12 digs by Isabella Camargo.
The Golden Eagles are back in action on Wednesday night as they set to take on Cal State Bakersfield in the Roadrunners' final Eagles Nest appearance as a member of the CCAA. The match will begin at 7 p.m. and Cal State L.A. students are admitted free with their valid campus I.D.
