LOS ANGELES – Luana Cavalcanti and Andrea Richardson each recorded double doubles as Cal State L.A. defeated Humboldt State on Friday night in the Eagles Nest. Cavalcanti had 10 kills and 18 digs, while Richardson recorded 13 kills with 11 digs.
With that win, the Golden Eagles improve to 13-5 overall, and 9-4 in the CCAA. Humboldt State falls to 6-11, 3-10.
The Golden Eagles got off to a great start, dominating game one, 30-16. As a team, Cal State L.A. recorded 16 kills and an attacking percentage of .414 to Humboldt State's .103.
In game two, the tables were turned as it was the Lumberjacks that went on to defeat the Golden Eagles, 30-23. Humboldt State recorded 14 kills and a percentage of .409 to the Golden Eagles nine kills and .083 attack percentage.
Cal State L.A. would go on to take the third game of the series by taking advantage of 19 kills as a team. The Golden Eagles put themselves ahead, two games to one, with the 30-20 victory.
The Golden Eagles were able to take the fourth game of the match, 30-16. The win gave Cal State L.A. the 3-1 win over Humboldt State, good for their 13th win of the season.
Individually, four Golden Eagles recorded double-digit kills; Tanya White had 16, Richardson recorded 13, and Cavalcanti and Airess Padda each had 10. Kha Tara Steen led all players with a .455 attacking percentage and Keslie Brown contributed 46 assists.
The Golden Eagles are back in action on Saturday afternoon for a rare 3 p.m. start in the Eagles Nest.
