De Seriere, Matthews Score as Golden Eagles Women Knock Down Lumberjacks, 2-1, in CCAA Soccer Opener

Complete Box Score

LOS ANGELES – Amber de Seriere and Amanda Matthews scored just four minutes apart as the Golden Eagles handed Humboldt State a 2-1 loss on Friday in Arcata. The match was Humboldt State's CCAA debut and was the first game of Conference play for both teams in the 2006 season. The Golden Eagles improve to 3-1 overall, 1-0 CCAA, as the Lumberjacks fall to 3-2, 0-1.

Both the Golden Eagles and the Lumberjacks seemed to be matched up evenly in the first half. By halftime, each side had taken four shots apiece. The Golden Eagles, however, were able to register three shots on goal to Humboldt State's one.

In the second half, Humboldt State aggressively attacked the Golden Eagle net, registering eight shots, including five on goal, and opened the game's scoring off of a free shot at the 52:49 mark.

Nearly twenty minutes later, the Golden Eagle heroines in last week's victory over Seattle Pacific teamed up to capitalize on a corner kick opportunity. Amber de Seriere took Erica Prado's pass and sent it to the back of the Lumberjack's net to tie the match up at 1-1. The goal was scored at the 71:28 mark, nearly the same time on the clock when Prado scored off of an Amanda Matthews pass against Seattle Pacific.

Just four minutes later, Matthews would put the Golden Eagles ahead by scoring from the left side. Cal State L.A. would go on to win their Conference opener, 2-1.

The Golden Eagles' four game road trip comes to a close on Sunday, as Cal State L.A. heads back to Rohnert Park to take on Sonoma State in an 11:30 am match.

The Golden Eagles return home to Jesse Owens Track for a Wednesday, September 13, match against Cal State Bakersfield. The women's game is set for 7 pm and will take place as the second match of a doubleheader with the men's team scheduled to play at 4:30 pm.
