Golden Eagles Lose Women's Soccer Match to Western Washington

Complete Box Score

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - Katy Nydam had a goal and an assist as Western Washington University rebounded from its first loss to defeat Cal State L.A., 2-1, in women's soccer action Sunday at the Sonoma State University Seawolf Classic.

The Vikings, who fell 5-1 to host Sonoma State on Friday, improved to 3-1-0.

Cal State L.A., which fell to 2-1-0, was coming off a 2-0 upset of NCAA Division II Preseason No.2-ranked Seattle Pacific. That snapped the Falcons' 60-game regular-season unbeaten streak.

Nydam put Western ahead 1-0 in the eighth minute, scoring on a diagonal cross from Amanda Font that drew out the goalkeeper. Just over three minutes later, Kelly Gagne scored her team-leading third goal of the season after a cross from Nydam put her one-on-one with the goalie.

The Golden Eagles did not score until the 66th minute when Ana Valverde had an unassisted goal from 10 yards.

Western had huge advantages in both shots, 17-4, and corner kicks, 8-4.

The Golden Eagles stay on the road as they play at Humboldt State Friday (Sept. 8).
