LOS ANGELES – The Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles, ranked #5 in the region, were handed their first CCAA Conference loss of 2006 on Thursday night at Jesse Owens Track as they were shutout by the Toros, 0-2. With that, the Golden Eagles fall to 6-2-1 overall, and 4-1-1 in the Conference, as the Toros improve to 4-6, 3-3.
Reyna Coca made four saves throughout the first half, but with just under a minute and a half to go, Cal State Dominguez Hills was able to score off of a corner kick. The Toros took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Golden Eagles stepped up their play in the second half, winning three corner kicks and holding the Toros to just two shots for the half, after giving up eight in the first. Despite being held to just two shots, Cal State Dominguez Hills put the game out of reach for the Golden Eagles with their second goal of the night at the 60:57 mark. The Golden Eagles would go on to fall victim to their first Conference loss of the season, 2-0.
The Golden Eagles will be at home again this Sunday, September 24, to take on CCAA rival UC San Diego in a 3 pm matchup. The women's game will follow the men's, which will begin at 12:30. All Cal State L.A. students are admitted free with their valid campus I.D.
