Cal State L.A. Sinks Seawolves, 2-1, in CCAA Women's Soccer Match

LOS ANGELES – Returning to the scene of their recent upset of #2 Seattle Pacific, the Golden Eagles defeated host Sonoma State in Rohnert Park on Sunday, September 10. Christine Duff and Kastidi Robles each scored first half goals to give Cal State L.A. the 2-1 victory. With that, the Golden Eagles improve to 4-1 overall, and 2-0 in the CCAA Conference, with Sonoma State falling to 3-3, 1-1.

The Golden Eagles fell behind early as, at the 22:28 mark, the Seawolves got on the board by putting one past Cal State L.A. goalie Reyna Coca. Fifteen minutes later, Christine Duff took Erica Prado's free kick and headed it into the net, tying the game at 1-1.

With the end of the half nearing, Kastidi Robles scored her first goal as a Golden Eagle by floating the ball over Seawolf goalie Vanessa Merced's head. Cal State L.A. would take a 2-1 advantage into the second half.

The Golden Eagles successfully defended their lead throughout the second half. Cal State L.A.'s defense was able to stop all six Sonoma State shots in the half, with Coca turning away both Seawolf shots on goal. Over the course of the game, Coca would make four saves and the defense saw to it that 13 of the Sonoma State shots were unsuccessful.

The Golden Eagles return home on Wednesday, September 13 to take on Cal State Bakersfield in a doubleheader. The men's game is set to start at 4:30 pm, with the women taking the field at 7. Cal State L.A. students are admitted to the match free with their valid I.D.
