Golden Eagles Womens Soccer Defeats Cal Poly Pomona, 4-3

LOS ANGELES – Megan Stevenson recorded four points (2 goals, 2 assists) and Amber de Seriere scored the game-winner as the Golden Eagles defeated Cal Poly Pomona on Friday night at Jesse Owens Track, 4-3. Cal State L.A. improves to 9-7-2 overall, 7-6-2 in the CCAA. The Broncos fall to 7-9-2, 5-8-2.

Cal Poly Pomona took an early lead in the first half, scoring the match's first two goals within the first 30 minutes. At 43:43, Stevenson scored off of Ana Valverde's pass to cut the deficit to 2-1.

In the second half, at 70:38, Christine Buenrostro tied the game up, putting a pass from Erica Prado into the back of the net. Cal Poly Pomona would respond with a penalty kick goal to retake the lead just three minutes later.

With time dwindling down, Valverde and Stevenson teamed up to score another goal, as Valverde sent a Stevenson-assisted shot past the Broncos' keeper. With the score now tied, and with just over seven minutes left to play, Amber de Seriere fired a shot into the net to give the Golden Eagles the lead, and ultimately, the 4-3 victory. Valverde and Stevenson notched assists on de Seriere's game winner.

The Golden Eagles close out the 2006 regular season on Sunday, October 22, as Cal State San Bernardino head into Jesse Owens Track for a 3 p.m. match.
