Golden Eagles Women Take 1-0 Soccer Win at Cal State Dominguez Hills

Complete Box Score

Carson, CA -- Visiting Cal State L.A. used a loose ball in the second half to net the only score of the day as the Golden Eagles took a 1-0 decision over Cal State Dominguez Hills on “Senior Day” at Toro Stadium. CSULA improves to 8-7-2, 6-6-2 CCAA, while CSUDH falls to 9-8-1, 8-5-1 CCAA.

Junior Corrie Hirokawa had the first real chance for either team in the 17th minute, but her lunging header was speared by CSULA keeper Reyna Coca, keeping the game scoreless.

CSULA's Erica Prado duplicated Hirokawa's effort in the 33rd minute, but her 15-yard blast off a scramble was stopped by a diving Ashley de Alejandro.

The Toros had the next opportunity at the 39 minute mark as Hirokawa delivered a perfect cross to Kristen Boskovich, but Boskovich's header far post was snagged by a diving Coca directly in front of her goal line.

Caylyn Reeves then took her turn to break the tie as she found herself alone from 13 yards out, but her attempt sailed high with just over a minute left in the first half as the teams entered intermission scoreless.

After the break, both defenses continued their play until the 62nd minute when Christine Duff found herself the recipient of a loose ball in front of the Toro net, and hammered in her 3rd goal of the year to give CSULA a 1-0 lead.

Christine Buenrostro had a golden opportunity to make it 2-0 in the 73rd minute as she fielded a breakaway, but De Alejandro met the streaking Buenrostro head on to make the dramatic save.

That's where the remained as the Toros' offense failed to muster any serious threat against the defensive-minded Golden Eagle defenders.

The Toros outshot the visitors 21-11 and out-cornered CSULA 2-1, but Coca tallied 11 saves compared to De Alejandro's five in the Golden Eagle win.

Cal State L.A. finishes the regular season with two home matches. Friday evening the Golden Eagles entertain Cal Poly Pomona, and Sunday afternoon Cal State San Bernardino comes calling.
