Marthinsen Scores Twice, Golden Eagles Defeat Broncos, 2-1

LOS ANGELES – Morten Marthinsen scored twice as the Golden Eagles defeated cross-town rival Cal Poly Pomona at Jesse Owens Track on Friday night, 2-1. The Golden Eagles improve to 10-7-1 overall, 9-6 in the CCAA. With 27 points, Cal State L.A. sits atop the CCAA South Division standings and in position to claim a Conference tournament berth for the upcoming competition in La Jolla.

Heading into halftime, the Golden Eagles found themselves down 1-0. At 75:53, Marthinsen took Jason Swope's corner kick and snuck the ball just past Bronco goalkeeper Ben Sussman. A few minutes later, Kyle Hewitt send a pass to Marthinsen who took a shot and left no doubt that he had just scored his second goal of the match.

In goal for Cal State L.A., Patrick Fry made five saves, allowing only one goal early in the match.

The Golden Eagles close out the 2006 regular season on Sunday, October 22, as Cal State San Bernardino head into Jesse Owens Track for a 12:30 p.m. match.
