Eduardo Castellanos

After making an outstanding transition from player to assistant coach in 2024, Eduardo Castellanos returns for his second season on Cal State LA’s men’s coaching staff. Castellanos made his college coaching debut last season and helped the Golden Eagles to another winning season.

Cal State LA was ranked as high as No. 2 in the nation and stretched its unbeaten streak to a program-record 30 games in a row during the season. The Golden Eagles finished the season ranked 11th in the country after compiling a 12-3-6 record that included a 5-1-5 mark in conference play.

The Golden Eagles hosted a Super Region 4 second-round match for a fifth consecutive season and reached the Super Region 4 semifinals for the fourth time in five seasons. Cal State LA was the furthest advancing team from the West, also for the fourth time in five seasons.

Before joining the Cal State LA coaching staff, Castellanos was a key contributor on the field for the Golden Eagles during the best run in program history.

Castellanos appeared in 69 games during his playing career at Cal State LA and was a part of 10 championships, including the program’s first national title in 2021. Since joining the program in 2018, Castellanos was part of a national championship in 2021, a national runner-up finish in 2019, two Super Region 4 championships, three California Collegiate Athletic Association regular-season championships and four CCAA Tournament titles.

An outstanding student as well, he was Cal State LA’s recipient of the 2021-22 Dr. Hal Charnofsky Award, an award presented by the CCAA for exemplary commitment to athletic and academic pursuits. He also served as Cal State LA’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Vice-President in the 2021-22 academic year.

Castellanos has already achieved great results as a coach. Castellanos most recently guided UPSL semi-professional side LA10 through an extraordinary 2025 season, entering the national championship game with an undefeated record of 17 wins, 1 draw, and 0 losses. Over the course of 18 matches, the team scored an impressive 81 goals while conceding only eight, showcasing both offensive dominance and defensive organization.

Initially joining LA10 as a player, he quickly transitioned into an assistant coaching role and even stepped in as interim head coach for several matches. In addition to leading training sessions, Castellanos was directly responsible for all roster recruitment and management, assembling a squad that propelled the club to its first-ever appearance in the UPSL National Finals.

He has also served as an assistant coach at Harvard-Westlake School since 2022 and helped the team achieve a 39-7-2 record that includes back-to-back Mission League titles, a CIF Division I semi-final finish and a CIF State Regional quarterfinal appearance. During the 2022-23 season, the team won the league with a 13-0-1 record and had a 21-1-1 overall mark. In the 2024-2025 season, Castellanos was part of a staff that led Harvard-Westlake Boys Soccer to a CIF Southern Section Divisional Championship and a CIF State Regional Championship.

He also currently serves as a head coach at FRAM Soccer Club, where he leads the B2015 Flight 1 Castellanos team.

Castellanos began his coaching career at the high-school level, where he had significant roles at Loyola and Bonita high schools. He helped Loyola High School to a Mission League title in 2021-22 and helped Bonita to its best league finish in more than 15 years as an assistant coach from 2018-21.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Cal State LA in 2022 and his Master of Business Administration in 2025.

Castellanos holds a United States Soccer Federation C license.
