Norris Frederick

An All-American in the long jump and high jump at the University of Washington, Norris Frederick joins the Cal State L.A. men’s and women’s track and field program as an assistant coach.

Frederick remains one of the top long jumpers in the United States and finished fifth in the event at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials.

Frederick earned a total of eight All-America awards in the long jump at Washington in indoor and outdoor track and field and he picked up three All-America awards in the high jump.  He was the NCAA Division I West Region champion in the long jump in 2006, 2007 and 2008 and he was the Mountain Pacific Indoor long jump champion in 2006, 2007 and 2008. He was also the Pacific-10 Conference champion in the long jump in 2005.

Frederick is an intercollegiate record holder at the University of Washington, where he was the first student-athlete to clear 7-4 in the high jump and leap 26-8 in the long jump.

Frederick earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington. He was a volunteer coach at the University of Washington and at San Diego State under the Olympic Training Center. He has also been an assistant coach at Roosevelt and Ballard high schools.
