Cal State LA’s No. 1 golfer in the program’s first two years of existence, Leanna Mena joins the staff of the golf team as an assistant coach.
Mena was the leader of the program’s first team in 2018 and instrumental in the program’s dramatic improvement in its second season of competition in 2019. She finished 14th in the California Collegiate Athletic Association after shooting a three-round total of 232. She shot rounds of 79, 77, 76 and improved her score at the conference championships by 18 strokes.
She had a scoring average of 79.3 over 17 rounds and had four top-20 finishes and one top-10 finish in 2019.
She was also the team’s No. 1 golfer in 2018 and finished 23rd in the CCAA after shooting rounds of 87, 82 and 84 for a 54-hole total of 253.
Mena came to Cal State LA after earning all-conference honors at Cuyamaca and Grossmont junior colleges. She was on a team that finished third in the state in 2016 and she received a top-6 award for Southern California that year.
She was the Most Valuable Player and competed on the varsity golf team all four years at Hilltop High School.
Mena is set to graduate from Cal State LA in December with a degree in business management.
