A former outstanding distance runner at Cal State LA, Dr. Andres De La Cruz returns for his second season with the Golden Eagle coaching staff as an assistant coach for the cross country and track and field programs.

De La Cruz had a tremendous impact on the cross country and track and field distance programs in his first year with the program in 2019. He guided the men’s and women’s cross country teams to improved finishes in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships and the distance runners were off to strong starts before the 2020 track and field season was cancelled in March.

He brings not only coaching expertise to Cal State LA, but is also a specialist in strength and conditioning. De La Cruz is a Doctor of Chiropractic and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.

De La Cruz coached the Norwalk High School boys varsity team from 2009-15 and led the program to four Suburban League Championships and six team appearances in the CIF-SS Championships. During his tenure, the program set several new school records, including fastest team-time ever over a three-mile course in 2012.

De La Cruz founded a private coaching business, Adrenaline Running, in 2016 and has helped many post-collegiate distance runners reach personal goals. He has coached five women to qualify for the 2020 USA Olympic Trials in the marathon and has several other athletes within reach of the qualifying marks.

De La Cruz was a star distance runner at Cal State LA from 2012-14. During his senior season, he won the California-Nevada Championships in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:02.9. He qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships and his time was ranked sixth in the nation.

Currently, he still competes for Run With Us, a Pasadena-based club, and holds personal bests of 3:53 in the 1,500, 8:59 in the steeplechase and 14:45 in the 5,000.

De La Cruz earned his Doctorate degree in Chiropractic from Southern California University of Health Sciences in 2018. Previously, he earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Kinesiology, specializing in rehabilitation and therapeutic exercise, at Cal State LA in 2014.

He opened his own chiropractic practice in Pasadena in 2019 and specializes in running injuries, sports injuries, back pain, neck pain, headaches and injury prevention.

De La Cruz was married this past summer to another former star Cal State LA runner, Sabrina Lopez. The couple resides in Alhambra.
