Erica Cosby

A valued member of Cal State LA’s track and field staff, Erica Cosby returns for her fourth season as an assistant coach in her second stint with the program. She coached for the first time at Cal State LA in 2013.

Cosby has been instrumental in working with Cal State LA’s throwers. She has assisted in skills development, strength and conditioning, recruiting, aiding in home track meet administration and managing study halls for the men’s and women’s track and field teams.

Cosby began her second stint at Cal State LA in 2018 and has been an integral part of the coaching staff ever since.

Previously, she coached at Golden West College for two years in 2016-17 and had a pair of athletes qualify for the California State Championships in the women’s javelin and men’s shot put.

She also coached for two years in 2014-15 at Bishop Alemany High School.

Cosby began her collegiate coaching career at Cal State LA in 2013 and coached Samantha Gutierrez to a California Collegiate Athletic Association title and an All-American award in the women’s discus.

She began her coaching career as the shot put and discus assistant coach at Thousand Oaks High School in 2008-09.

Cosby had an outstanding collegiate career at UC Riverside, where she competed for the Highlanders from 2002-07. She threw the discus and hammer and had best marks of 150-0 in the discus and 185-5 in the hammer.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology with a minor in ethnic studies from UC Riverside and is completing her Master’s degree in Kinesiology at Cal State Northridge.

Cosby comes from an athletic family. Both her parents were athletes growing up. She has two brothers who are basketball coaches and her sister, Jessica, was a two-time Olympian in the hammer.

She also has a dog named Poochie Girl.
