Hudson Promoted To Interim Associate A.D. Position

LOS ANGELES – Sheila Hudson, who has been at Cal State L.A. since 2002, has been promoted to the position of Interim Associate Athletic Director, effective immediately, Cal State L.A. Director of Athletics Dan Bridges has announced.
 
Hudson, who is also the department's compliance coordinator and senior woman administrator, will continue in those roles and will also take on additional responsibilities related to academic progress, retention, office management, special events and sport supervision. Hudson is also the advisor to Cal State L.A.'s Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
 
Hudson, who has been an assistant coach on the Cal State L.A. track and field teams for the past five years, is one of the most accomplished jumpers in U.S. history. She earned national outdoor triple jump crowns in 1987, 1989, 1990, 1992, 1994, 1995 and 1998. She also represented the United States in the triple jump in the 1996 Olympic Games and finished 10th. She is still the current record holder in the indoor triple jump.
 
She received her B.A. in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley in 1990 and earned six NCAA national titles in the outdoor triple jump (1987, 1988, 1990), indoor triple jump (1990) and outdoor long jump (1990). In 1996, she was named the Pacific-10 Conference's women's track and field Athlete of the Decade.
 
Prior to joining the staff at Cal State L.A., Hudson worked as a staff writer in the Sacramento Bee sports department from 2000-2002. She also served stints on the USA Track and Field Board of Directors (1996-2000) and was a horizontal jumps liason to the USATF's Athletics Advisory Committee from 1994-2000.
 
Bridges also announced that Cal State L.A. will be posting an opening for a new position, Director of Athletic Development, in the near future. That position will oversee the corporate sponsor program, lead the Golden Eagle Fund campaign, develop and cultivate major gift donors, market and promote the Golden Eagle sport programs and help coordinate and maximize the potential for the major fundraising events for the department.
