LOS ANGELES – Christine Duff and Kastidi Robles each scored goals for the second consecutive match as Cal State L.A. defeated Cal State Bakersfield, 2-1, on Wednesday night at Jesse Owens Track. The Golden Eagles improve to start the season 5-1 overall, 3-0 in the CCAA. Cal State Bakersfield, who will be reclassifying to NCAA Division I status for the 2007-08 season, fall to 3-3-1, 0-3.
The game was competitive throughout. Neither team was able to gain the advantage over the other until Christine Duff scored off of an Erica Prado corner kick at 66:35 to put Cal State L.A. up, 1-0. Cal State Bakersfield's Moriah Neville would tie the match up with an unassisted goal with just under 12 minutes to go.
It seemed that Jesse Owens Track would host its second overtime game of the evening until Khadijah Greenwood fed Kastidi Robles a pass that found itself within the Roadrunner's net at the 88:14 mark. This goal gave the Golden Eagles the 2-1 lead and the eventual victory. That was Kastidi's second game-winning goal in as many matches.
Cal State L.A. returns to action on Friday, September 15, with a 1:30 pm match as they travel to Cal State San Bernardino to take on the Coyotes. On, Sunday, September 17, the Golden Eagles head down the freeway to battle the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos in a 12:30 pm match.
