All-CCAA Team
LOS ANGELES – Cal State LA's women's soccer team had seven players earn All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honors, including one who claimed a major award for a second straight year, in voting by the conference coaches and announced by the conference on Wednesday.
Senior
Taesja Paopao was named the CCAA Goalkeeper of the Year for a second straight season to highlight the honors for the Golden Eagles. She became the first repeat winner of the Goalkeeper of the Year Award since it was established in 2018.
She was joined on the first team by senior
Jassmin Ortiz, who earned All-CCAA honors for a second straight season.
Two other Golden Eagles - senior defender
Jaclyn Orozco and senior midfielder
Shelby Melin earned second-team honors and three more - junior forward
Delia Bocanegra, senior midfielder
Liliana Gonzalez and senior defender
Destiny Moedano - received honorable mention.
Cal Poly Pomona's Vanessa Cruz was named the CCAA Player of the Year, Forward of the Year and Newcomer of the Year, while Aliah Avila was the Midfielder of the Year and Jennifer Limon of Cal State Monterey Bay was the Defender of the Year. Heidie Munoz of Cal Poly Humbolt was the Freshman of the Year and Jay Mason of Cal Poly Pomona was the Coach of the Year.
Cal State LA (9-4-5) finished third in the CCAA for a second straight season and advanced to the CCAA Tournament for an 11th straight season. The Golden Eagles bowed out of the tournament after a 0-0 tie with Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday in a penalty kick shootout, 6-5, in a first-round tournament match in University Stadium.
Paopao earned her second straight Goalkeeper of the Year Award and is having another outstanding season. She leads the conference in goals against average (.604) and in save percentage (.867) while ranking second in shutouts with nine. In her two-year Cal State LA career, Paopao has recorded 21 shutouts in her Cal State LA career.
Ortiz, who rebounded brilliantly from a major injury near the end of the 2023 season, earned first-team honors this season after receiving second-team honors a year ago. She had a pair of goals, both game-winners in back-to-back wins late in the season over San Francisco State and Cal State Monterey Bay that helped clinch a tournament spot for Cal State LA. She also has an assist for a total of five points.
Orozco earned All-CCAA honors for a third straight year after another outstanding season. She has appeared in 17 of Cal State LA's 18 games and is second on the team in minutes played with 1,474 minutes played.
Melin earned All-CCAA honors for a second straight season as well. She is second on the team in scoring with two goals and three assists for seven points and she had goals in back-to-back wins over Stanislaus State and Sonoma State during the season.
Bocanegra received All-CCAA honors for the first time despite missing seven games due to injury. She leads the team in scoring with four goals and two assists for 10 points.
Gonzalez received All-CCAA honors for a third time after another strong season for the Golden Eagles. She has a pair of goals this season and both were game-winners, giving her 13 in her outstanding Cal State LA career. She has started all 18 games for the Golden Eagles this season and leads the team in minutes played with 1,625.
Moedano, meanwhile, earned All-CCAA honors for a second season after another remarkable season. She had the most spectacular goal of the season, a booming free kick from distance that was the CCAA Highlight of the Month for September. She
Cal State LA will now await the announcement of the NCAA Tournament field to see if its season continues. The Golden Eagles are ranked seventh in the regional poll released today. The field will be announced on Monday.
