Tommie Lipsey

Tommie Lipsey was a star player for the men’s basketball program from 1973-76 and was one of the top players in the program’s history. Lipsey set a career program scoring record of 1,641 points that stood until 2003.

Lipsey is still No. 2 on Cal State L.A.’s all-time scoring list and is No. 5 in rebounding with 883 career rebounds.

He had career highs of 43 points (against John Brown in 1975) and 26 rebounds (against Azusa Pacific) in 1975. He still holds the program record for field goal percentage in a season (63.3 percent in 1976) and he also holds the program mark for field goals made in a career (697).

He was the California Collegiate Athletic Association Player of the Year in 1976 and he earned first-team All-Conference honors in 1974 when Cal State L.A. was competing at the NCAA Division I level. He earned All-District VIII honors in 1976.

Lipsey was also a seventh-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Lakers in 1976.
