Suzie Iwami concluded her four-year basketball career as the program’s all-time leading scorer and she still ranks No. 2 on that list today. She scored a total of 1,528 points from 1977-80 and led Cal State L.A. to a pair of second-place conference finishes in 1979 and 1980.

She averaged 15.1 points per game during her career and played both the forward and guard positions. She earned All-Conference honors three times and All-West Region honors once during her career.

Iwami led Cal State L.A. in scoring twice during her career and she was a superb free-throw shooter. She made 79.2 percent of her free throws (99-of-125) and held the single-season record until 2004. She also made 73.2 percent for her career and that stood as a program record until 2006.

Iwami also ranked high in career lists for assists, steals and rebounds.

After concluding her Cal State L.A. career, she went on to play for several seasons with the Imperials, a team of Asian-Americans, who won six state championships from 1978-1986.

She was also an assistant coach at Cal State L.A. for one season.
