Morten Marthinsen helped return Cal State L.A.’s men’s soccer program to national prominence during an outstanding four-year career from 2004-07.

Marthinsen was a dazzling offensive force and earned All-California Collegiate Athletic Association and All-West Region honors all four years he played for the Golden Eagles. He earned third-team All-America honors as a junior in 2006 after helping Cal State L.A. to its first NCAA postseason appearance since 1994.

Marthinsen finished his Cal State L.A. career with 46 goals, which is No. 2 on the program’s career list, and 106 points, which is also No. 2 all-time.

He made an immediate impact at Cal State L.A. and set a new program record with four goals in just his second game for the Golden Eagles, a 5-3 win over Bryant University on Aug. 29, 2004. He went on to lead the team in goals with 13 and points with 29.

Marthinsen was named the CCAA Player of the Year as a sophomore after a spectacular season in 2005. He scored 12 goals, including six game-winners, and led the team once again with 25 points. He appeared in 16 games that season and led the conference in points per game and goals per game.

As a junior, Marthinsen led the team again with 13 goals, five assists and 31 points. He was second in the conference in points and third in goals and was named the Far West Regional’s Outstanding Offensive Player after scoring three goals in two games. He had one goal in a 2-1 win over Seattle Pacific in a first-round NCAA playoff game and added two goals in a 3-3 tie against Seattle University in the regional title match. Seattle advanced on penalty kicks. He helped the Golden Eagles to an overall record of 13-8-2, which was the best for the program since 1994.

Marthinsen had another strong year as a senior in 2007 and added eight more goals and 21 points to his career totals. Cal State L.A. had an overall record of 11-6-4 and advanced to the CCAA Championship Tournament.

He graduated from Cal State L.A. in 2008 and majored in television,video and film/broadcast journalism. Originally from Oslo, Norway, he lives in Hollywood, Fla., with his wife, Marietta Losada, and works as a freelance video editor. His work can be seen in shows on Animal Planet and Travel Channel. He also does work on reality shows as well as commercials.
