Ken Lohnes set an NCAA record with 84 hits during the 1968 season and earned first-team All-America honors at third base. He led the nation in batting average and runs batted in, hitting .440 and driving in 60 runs.

He served as Cal State L.A.’s team captain and was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association’s Most Valuable Player, helping Cal State L.A. to the first conference baseball championship in the program’s history. The team also reached the championship game of the District 8 playoffs.

Lohnes, a two-time All-Conference selection at Cerritos College, batted .333 in 1969. He still holds the school records for career batting average (.401) and held the single-season marks for most singles (66) and runs batted in (60) at the time of his enshrinement.
