Jeff Lough was the Pacific Coast Athletic Association cross country champion in 1971 and 1972 and won the second title by a whopping 26 seconds.

He topped off his 1971 season by placing 21st in the NCAA University Division Meet (beating Marty Liquori) and earning All-America honors. No other PCAA runner had placed as high in the NCAA Championships.

Lough was 30th in the 1972 meet.

Cal State L.A.’s premier distance runner, Lough set school records at two miles, three miles, six miles and 10,000 meters. He still holds the Cal State L.A. record at 3,000 meters with a time of 8:11.7 (hand-timed converted from yards to meters) and he is No. 2 at 5,000 meters and No. 6 at 10,000 meters.

He also served as an assistant coach at Cal State L.A. for six years and was on the staff when Cal State L.A. won the NCAA Division II championship in 1978. He also served as the meet manager for the 1985 NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships that were held at Cal State L.A.
