Jay Gibbons played baseball at Cal State L.A. from 1996-98 and earned All-Conference and All-Region honors in each of his three seasons with the Golden Eagles.
He posted career bests of .417 with 13 home runs and 57 RBI in 1997 and concluded his Cal State L.A. career hitting .380 with a school record-tying 33 home runs and 128 RBI in 157 career games. He also walked 96 times in those 157 games and had an on-base percentage of .487.
He helped the Golden Eagles to back-to-back conference championships in 1997 and 1998.
Gibbons was a 14th-round draft pick of the Toronto Blue Jays in 1998. He was selected in baseball’s Rule 5 draft by the Baltimore Orioles in 2000 and played seven seasons with the Orioles. He was most recently with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
