One of the first Cal State L.A. women to win a collegiate national championship, Jarvis Scott was an exceptional national and international competitor.

She finished sixth in the 400 meters at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics and qualified for both the 400 and 800 finals. She became the first woman to qualify for the Olympics in both events. Scott was also the 1968 AAU 400-meter champion.

At Cal State L.A., Scott played basketball and competed in every track event from 100 yards to the half-mile. She won the 1975 AIAW 440 championship and teamed with Vicki Betts, Margo Tiff and Gloria Whitfield to win the 1973 AIAW sprint medley relay team.

She went on to become the head women’s track coach at Texas Tech.
