Bob Clark won the 1969 NCAA University Division (now Division I) golf championship, shooting a 76-71-77-74 – 298 over the wind-swept Broadmoor Country Club in Colorado Springs.
Ironically, he had been runner-up to teammate Steve Weakley in both the Pacific Coast Athletic Association and California Collegiate Athletic Association championship finals that season. Cal State L.A. won both titles as a team.
As a senior, he won both the Far Western Intercollegiate, the top tournament on the West Coast, and the Houston All-American Intercollegiate, one of the nation’s most prestigious collegiate events.
A two-time, All-American, Clark didn’t play golf in high school.
