Bill Otta was a three-year letterman in tennis at Cal State L.A. from 1960 to 1962 and helped the Golden Eagles win California Collegiate Athletic Association championships in all three years.

He went on to a successful coaching career after leaving Cal State L.A. He became the coach at Saddleback Community College in 1975 and amassed an overall record of 329-66 with 14 consecutive conference championships, 10 Southern California regional tournament championships, 5 Ojai team championships and state championships in 1984, 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1991.

Otta was named Coach of the Year six times, including in 1991 when he was named the California Community College Tennis Coaches Association’s Coach of the Year.
