Mason Holle enters his 10th season with Cal State LA’s men’s basketball program, where he has established himself as a cornerstone of the Golden Eagles’ success. A highly respected and talented coach, Holle serves as the program’s lead recruiter, playing a pivotal role in attracting top-tier student-athletes who have elevated Cal State LA to historic achievements on the court and in the classroom.
In addition to his recruiting responsibilities, Holle manages the program’s day-to-day operations and is recognized as one of the most experienced and well-regarded assistant coaches in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Holle’s ability to identify and develop talent has been instrumental in the Golden Eagles’ rise to prominence. He has recruited and developed standout players, including All-Region selections Eche Okeke and Corey Cofield, who helped solidify Cal State LA as one of the premier programs in the West Region. Holle was also a key architect behind the 2023–24 campaign, a record-breaking season in which Cal State LA won a program-best 24 games, captured its first-ever CCAA Tournament championship, and earned the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Division II West Region.
The Golden Eagles also hosted the West Regional and finished the year ranked No. 17 nationally in the NABC coaches’ poll. Holle’s recruiting pipeline and player development efforts ensured the program could compete—and thrive—against the best in the conference and region.
During the challenging 2024–25 season, Holle’s leadership and experience were crucial in helping the Golden Eagles battle through adversity and earn a second consecutive trip to the CCAA Tournament. The team’s thrilling comeback victory at Cal State East Bay was one of the most memorable wins in program history, sealing back-to-back tournament appearances for the first time since 2019–20.
Over the course of his tenure, Holle has consistently elevated the program, helping Cal State LA to wins over perennial powers such as Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal Poly Pomona, Chico State, and Cal State San Bernardino. He has been central in guiding the Golden Eagles to multiple CCAA Tournament appearances, including a semifinal run in 2018–19, while also helping the program maintain strong academic standards.
A graduate of Birmingham-Southern College, where he also competed as a student-athlete, Holle began his coaching career at La Cañada High School before joining Cal State LA in 2016. He earned his master’s degree in sociology from Cal State LA in 2021. Coach Holle resides in Glendale with his fiancée, Sydney Zarate.
Holle continues to be the driving force in shaping the future of Golden Eagle basketball, building championship-caliber rosters, and sustaining a culture of excellence both on and off the court.
